Film-maker’s video showcase for music band Denature A still from the video by film-maker Chris Lavelle, below, that he made for up-and-coming North-East group Denature.

An award-winning film-maker is hoping to help set an up-and-coming band on the road to stardom. Chris Lavelle, whose work has been honoured by the Royal Television Society and at the international Adobe Design Achievement Awards, volunteered to create a music video for North-Eastd group Denature.
The 42-year-old, from Houghton, said he hoped the Time video, produced on a “tight budget”, would help showcase the talents of the electro-pop performers. “We asked if any actors would like to work for orange juice, and it seems quite a few did,” he said. “We story-boarded, hired some costumes, which blew the budget, and then had a period of four to five hours’ shooting time. “Working with the actors on a happy set was a great experience for all of us.” Last year, his Turn of the Screw video beat 5,000 entries from more than 70 countries to reach the final of the Adobe Design Achievement Awards.
He landed the Live Action Award category, announced at a ceremony in Toronto, Canada. The video is a visual narrative interpretation of his older brother Steve’s song, revolving around a woman not being able to come to terms with the loss of love. It took five months to produce and was part of Chris’s final-year project on what is now the BA Interactive Media and Motion Graphics degree at Sunderland University.

The graphic designer at Durham University and part-time lecturer in 3D Animation and Modelling was also honoured at the Royal Television Society Awards.
